Kristen Bellstrom

lives and writes in New York City, one of the best places on Earth. Having confronted her feminist guilt, she looks forward to reading about the fall collections and amassing the biggest shoe collection in journalism.

Chris Fleisher

came to Columbia’s J-School by way of The Indypendent, a bi-weekly newspaper in New York. His good looks and charm have gotten him nowhere in the industry to date, but he’s happy to have had the opportunity to drop the V-Bomb in conversations with his friends (“So, I was talking with Victor Navasky the other day...”).

Carrie Giddins

is a longtime political consultant making her move into the world of journalism. She served as the Webmaster for NYRM and her photography and additional work can be found at: CRGPhoto

Georgia Jacobs

arrived at NYRM from Planet Tokyo, where she spent three years at the helm of Metropolis, an English entertainment and lifestyle weekly. At NYRM, she created catchy headlines and teased the secrets of publishing from U.K. editors (with a phone bill to prove it). Contact her at georgia_jacobs@yahoo.com.

Karla Lightfoot

: Between headstands and sun salutations, Karla managed to co-write “The BAP Handbook: The Official Guide to the Black American Princess.” A cross between a yogi, a style maven and a bon vivant, she hopes to help women find their inner princess by writing about fashion, food, fun and spiritual fitness.

Tom Meagher

: A journalist and aspiring author, he hopes the book editors he interviewed for his piece on the state of newspaper literary coverage will remember him fondly when his first book is published. He lives and writes in Brooklyn.

José Negroni

was a reporter for the Buenos Aires Herald in Argentina, where he covered theater, rock and ballet. He graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 2003, where he helped edit the school daily and played for the men’s first-ever basketball team. José spent the summer writing about the Brooklyn Cyclones for a small Brooklyn paper. His interests include writing, basketball and hiking.

Rupal Parekh

is a native of the Garden State (yes, that is New Jersey), and she is content knowing that NYRM isn’t sold door-to-door. She likes to write about business, travel and everyday happenings. You can write her at journo47@yahoo.com

Corey Pein

was a copy editor for NYRM, and the whole experience has fueled his tendency to have Bad Thoughts. He is from the Great Northwest. He likes New York, despite all it’s done to him. Contact him at c_pein@hotmail.com.

Jay Pfeifer

was also a copy editor for NYRM. He grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, but spent the past eight years avoiding the cold in Virginia. He has been published in a couple of Virginia alternative-weeklies and hopes to someday write for magazines—not just write about them.

Adam Pitluk

is what we in the industry call a “journeyman journalist.” He has the dubious distinction of being one of a select few writers who have been published in both High Times and Boys’ Life.

Muna Shikaki

: Before moving to the Axis of Good, Muna worked at the Negotiation Affairs Department in occupied Palestine, writing response e-mails to PLO bashers. Her article about Azizah magazine fulfilled her urge to see a piece mentioning Muslims without mentioning September 11. She hopes justice will prevail, so that she can start covering topics that got her interested in journalism in the first place, like fashion and makeup.

María I. Soldevila

: Directly from Quisqueya in the Dominican Republic, Maria has been a journalist for the past eight years. If she gets her way, she will spend the next year researching for her first non-fiction book, while she continues doing freelance work in both the United States and the Dominican Republic.

Elizabeth Woyke

: An Internet junkie, Elizabeth happily Googled and Lexis-Nexised her way through most of her fact-checking duties for NYRM. After completing the Columbia Publishing Course in 2002, Elizabeth worked as a joint editorial assistant at Random House and Vogue. She has no plans to write a tell-all book about the experience.
